JOMAYU (Japanese, good cocoon) is a fine boucle made from tussah silk, harvested in the wild from cocoons that have already been left by the moth. This yarn was custom spun for us in Japan by a family with many generations in the business. Producing a strand this fine in tussah requires a level of craftmanship available in only a few mills in the world.
JOMAYU is an excellent yarn for both fine gauge handknitting and mid gauge machine knitting. It is also a remarkably versatile component for combining with other strands in either use. The loops of silk boucle create an airy fabric that ventilates well and yet is opaque. The foamy structure of a JOMAYU fabric also cushions, accentuating the sensual softness of the silk.
We have developed a color palette for JOMAYU that draws from the traditional Japanese love of nature.
