Merino Country

Earlier this year we met yarn-to-be at the ultimate source -- New Zealand's legendary Merino wool country near Mt. Cook (Aoraki).  The area has been dedicated to sheep ranching since the 1850's, a long history of sustainability that is respected and treasured.  Much of the high country land remains in a mixed use natural reserve where sheep roam freely during the warm months.  Their food is basically native wild herbs, and ranchers are convinced that such nutrition is the key to superior wool.
